Dr. Spyros Kouvelis
Institute for Sustainable Development (EPLO)
With over 30 years of experience in sustainable development, sustainable finance and maritime affairs and holding a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MA in Agricultural Economics, Spyros Kouvelis is the Founder and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO). He serves as a Senior Associate of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), acting as an ambassador of the programme in the South-East Europe and East Mediterranean regions, and teaching in selected programmes of the Institute. He is an EU Mission Board member for the Restore our Ocean and Waters Mission and has been instrumental in designing and implementing the Verimpact ESG/sustainable finance methodology and assessment tool. He was elected to the Greek Parliament in 2007 and in 2009 and served as Shadow Minister of environment (2007-2009) and as Deputy Minister for foreign economic, cultural, and environmental affairs (2009 to 2011) where he led various multi-disciplinary teams of experts and headed the Greek delegations in numerous UN Summits and Conferences, including COPs.
